I had a 500+ day streak in French on that app and then quit a year before the AI fiasco because I was tired of its shame-based learning approach to mistakes and it didn’t seem to take kindly to the fact that some words and phrases in French have more than one way to say them.
Like how many people say “tu parles franscais?”
“Parlez-vous franscais” seems more common.

Similarly, Mastodon is originally German and has a lot of German users, and I found they wrote far more informally than what we were taught in the German class. I really did enjoy the AI conversations, though, they really had me thinking on my feet. Wasn’t worth the money, though, when the bill came due, and of course the app is just barely usable when not paying.
